Memorial - "To the Heroes of Lenin Comsomolians" - Chisinau

This monument is called “The Symbol of Youth Courage.” - not "To the Heroes of Lenin Comsomolians" as indicated on Google Maps and other sites, though an understandable mistake as the inscription on the plynth in Romanian reads "Eroilor leniniști ai Komsomolului" - to heroes of the Leninist Comsomolians". The monument to young patriots who gave their lives for the freedom of their homeland was erected on the initiative and with the funds of the republic's youth. The monument was installed on Molodezhi Avenue (now Grigory Vieru Boulevard). Its opening took place on June 27, 1959. The monument is 14.5 meters high. On a granite pedestal stands a quadrangular column topped with a bronze sculpture of a girl holding a torch, symbolizing Victory. At the bottom of the composition is a group of five sculptures symbolizing the steadfastness and fearlessness of Soviet youth. From the first days of the war, an underground committee of the Moldavian Komsomol was created in Cahul.
