Описание

This hillside Soviet-era war memorial includes two primary sculptural elements. On the left, a large, white five-pointed star monument bears the inscription in Russian: "К могилам павших за Родину" ("To the graves of those who fell for the Motherland."). On the centre/right, stands a long white stone wall with a relief sculpture embedded in the hillside. The relief depicts a solemn, mourning face of a woman, partially veiled by a hand. To the right is the Order of the Patriotic War, and a large inscription in bold Cyrillic letters: "Люди, помните, какой ценой завоёвано счастье — помните!" ("People, remember at what cost happiness was won — remember!"). This is a paraphrase of the famous lines from Robert Rozhdestvensky’s “Requiem”, often used in Soviet war memorials, including in nearby Ungheni's Memorial Complex.
