Mosaic - "Unity and Agriculture" #1 - Bender

Mikhail Burya; Vladislav Andreevich Obukh1963

Descriere

A pair of mosaics symbolize local industry and rural life on the side façades of the House of Culture “Pavel Tkachenko” (also Tcacenco, a prominent communist revolutionary born in present-day Transnistria) in Bender. The mosaic on the left wall shows a male worker in coveralls carrying a large reel of wire and a female figure in traditional dress holding a bolt of patterned fabric. On the right wall, a shepherd plays the fluier (a Moldovan folk flute), while a girl in folk costume presents a grapevine heavy with fruit. The color palette includes dark red, brown, and white, with accents of blue and green. Both mosaics are in good condition, with minimal visible decay or damage. Aparently, this is the first ceramic mosaic made in Moldova according to Pridnestrovian Heritage almanac, issue 15 (2023). Inside the building, the main artistic feature is a large mosaic-style painted panel titled “Workers of the City of Bender,” featuring citizens unified under the flag of the Moldavian SSR, flanked by historical panels portraying episodes from regional history: Ottoman rule, imperial Russian campaigns, revolutionary struggles, and liberation from fascism in 1944.
