Bus Stop - Ciucur Mingir

Necunoscut1960s-1980s

Descriere

The bus stop in Ciucur Mingir is a modest structure transformed by a vivid mosaic program. It consists of an open front, flared footprint, and an oval roof supported by six cylindrical concrete columns. The roofline and ends of the two walls are edged with a simple decorative cornicing of pale blue tiles. The interior walls are densely packed with mosaics composed of small, square tesserae in subdued but warm tones: mustard yellow, burnt orange, sky blue, forest green, white, and black. The natural motifs (flowers, trees, sun, fields, plants, clouds, wind...) are closer to folk abstraction than realism in their absurdist colors. Black and yellow tesserae on the right side provide quite a unique color scheme. The large grout lines, dirt, and weathering of the already subdued colors make it more difficult to pick out the patterns. Some distance is required to get a better visual overview of the motifs. The tesserae's irregularity and hand-laid execution suggest local craftsmanship. Signs of wear and improvisational maintenance are visible. The columns have been painted with black at their base, possibly to cover graffiti or water damage. The rusted signboard above reads "CIUCUR MINGIR", though a patch covering or replacing "MI" hints at post-Soviet disrepair. The single metal bench in the centre might be a later addition.
