Unknown — 1959?
Description
Founded in December 1959 as the first fruit-and-vegetable sovkhoz-technicum in Moldavia, on the base of the Kamenský state farm and the Saharna agricultural school. A long two-storey teaching block on Lenina Street, its front façade carrying two tall sgraffito panels in terracotta line that flank the entrance bay, one a young woman with the harvest, the other two figures under a Sputnik. The monumental panels certainly came later. It now bears the name of Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Soltys. Ivan Soltys (1923–1945) was a Red Army soldier born in the village of Kuzmin in Kamenka district, who left for the front in spring 1944. During the liberation of the village of Luisenthal on 11 February 1945 he smothered an enemy firing point with his own body, letting his unit complete its task, and was made a Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously.
